The discharge limitation is the one that catches brands out most often. Discharge works by removing dye from cotton fibres rather than laying ink on top, so it does nothing to polyester and produces a muted heather rather than a clean result on blends. Mesh Count: the Spec Your Custom Print T-Shirt Manufacturer Rarely Volunteers

Mesh count is the number of threads per inch in the screen. It controls how much ink passes through, which decides both opacity and detail. Getting it wrong is the single most common cause of a print that looks worse than the artwork.

The practical consequence: artwork with 0.5mm hairlines cannot be printed on a 110 mesh no matter how good the printer is. We flag this at file review and either raise the mesh or thicken the line, and we tell you which we did rather than silently altering your design.

Cure Temperature: Why Prints Crack

Plastisol does not dry, it cures. The ink film has to reach roughly 160°C throughout its thickness, not just at the surface. A conveyor dryer running too fast produces a shirt that looks perfect on day one and cracks in the fifth wash.

Pigment-dyed fabric deserves a warning. Because the dye sits on the fibre surface rather than reacting with it, discharge results vary between lots — sometimes dramatically. We will print discharge on pigment-dyed cotton if you insist, but only after a lab test on your actual fabric lot, and we quote it as a risk rather than a standard.

Costing a Print Run

Screen setup is a fixed cost per colour per design. It does not scale down, which is why a 50-piece four-colour job carries a visible setup line while a 500-piece job appears to have none — the cost is simply buried in the unit price.

Note the crossover: DTF is cheaper than four-colour screen at 50 pieces and more expensive at 500. If your artwork is full colour and your run is small, DTF is usually the right answer even though its wash durability is lower. Artwork Files: What to Send

Send vector where possible — AI, EPS or PDF with outlined fonts. For raster, 300dpi at final print size, not scaled up from a web image. Specify Pantone references rather than describing colours, because screen calibration varies and “navy” is not a specification.

If you only have a JPG or a screenshot, send it anyway. We redraw at the separation stage and charge the separation fee once. What we will flag is any element too fine to print at your chosen mesh, and we propose a fix rather than printing something that will look broken.

Compliance for Printed Tees

Print inks fall under the same restricted substance rules as the fabric.
